In addition, we heard from Oprah’s favorite guest, the inspiring Tererai Trent, and honored her with our first annual Unstoppable Achievement Award. Tererai’s life embodies why we do this work and what an education makes possible for every child.

ARightToLearn.org

We also announced our latest global initiative, ARightToLearn.org. Every major social change throughout history happened because of people like you and me who cared enough to do something about it. ARightToLearn.org is our stake in the ground to ignite a social movement to educate every child!

ARightToLearn.org is a place where you as an individual or a group can take a stand for these children by starting your own fundraising campaign. We’ve made it really easy for you to turn your birthday, holiday, graduation or any day into a fundraiser and invite your friends, family and colleagues to donate money in lieu of a gift and bring education to vulnerable children in need around the world

We were excited that over 100 people pledged to start their own online fundraising campaigns this year and help a child lift themselves out of extreme poverty through an education.

UPDATE: In an effort to make the ARightToLearn.org platform as easy and intuitive as possible, our team is working on a 2.0 version of the site.

These changes should be implemented within 45 days and when they’re complete, we’ll let you know so you can start your campaign.

In the meantime, pledge your birthday or any occasion now by sending us an email. In the body of the message, type your name and the date that you want to fundraise for education. We’ll send you a reminder 30 days prior to that date and guide you through a step-by-step process to create your own campaign.

Thanks again for attending the GALA. I’ll be sending you inspiring segments from the event over the next two months that you can relive and share with your friends.

Be sure and mark your calendars now for the next Unstoppable Gala on March 15, 2014.

Thank you again for standing with the Unstoppable Foundation as we work toward the goal of making sure every child has “A Right to Learn.”

With unstoppable love and gratitude,

Unstoppable Achievement Award Honoree

Tererai Trent,
Oprah's "All Time" Favorite Guest

Tererai TrentTererai Trent first touched the hearts of millions in an appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” In this show, which aired in 2009, she shared her personal story and her passion for education.

In May of 2011, she was named by Oprah Winfrey as her favorite guest of all time. The honor came with a special gift — a $1.5 million donation from the Oprah Winfrey Foundation to rebuild the Matau Primary School in Tererai’s home village and improve learning for nearly 4,000 children in nearby communities.

Tererai Trent was born to an impoverished family in a remote village in Matau, Zimbabwe. Made to herd cattle instead of going to school, she was largely self-taught in her early years. At age 11, she was married and after a few years, was a mother of five children.

“Tererai says that education is the pathway to progress and the
gateway out of poverty. She should know. Dr. Tererai Trent is
living proof of the promise and potential of education —
and the power of a dream.”

- Oprah Winfrey

Armed with the inspiration from a relief worker who visited her village and a big dream, Tererai made her way to the United States in 1998. Nearly 15 years later, Tererai has received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees.

While she achieved her own aspirations, Tererai never forgot the children in her village. Her new dream was to rebuild the Matau Primary School, a school that was literally falling apart. Now, Tererai is seeing that dream come true.
