10 May Meet An Unstoppable Mother!

Meet Mama Jane: A mother who is redefining possible!

mama jane

donate now‘Mama’ Jane Marindany is a small-scale farmer and mother of five from Emori Joi in the Mara region of Kenya. Last year, Mama Jane participated in a Unstoppable Foundation sponsored alternative income training session on honey harvesting. Since then, she has set up three bee hives on her property and has started to receive extra income by selling honey that she collects and pasteurizes from her hives.

With half of the world’s population living on less than $2 per day, added income from alternative income projects can give mamas like Jane the financial freedom to send their children to school and break the cycle of poverty. This is especially important for young girls as women’s education and literacy rates in developing countries pale in comparison to those of men.

“My greatest wish is to have a steady income,” Mama Jane said recently. “I wish for all children to be given the right to go to school without discrimination.”

Unstoppable Foundation’s Sponsor a Village alternative income programs target marginalized parents, especially women, providing them with resources to generate a sustainable source of income, increase their savings and even start their own businesses. Those resources include farming supplies, women’s lending circles, financial literacy workshops, micro-credit loans, business training sessions and women’s support groups. With these gifts, parents are given the education, tools and skills to sustain their incomes and break the cycle of poverty once and for all.

Help us empower Kenyan women like Mama Jane to run their own bee-keeping businesses as a source of alternative income. Donate in the name of your loved one to sweeten their Mother’s Day.
