  • Dilapidated, overcrowded and unsafe classrooms
  • Lack of trained educators
  • Irregular attendance due to sickness and poverty
  • Children must work as laborers
  • Girls as young as 10 years old forced into early marriage

AFTER Sponsor A Village:
  • 8 schoolhouses completed
  • 1 library completed
  • All classrooms outfitted with furnishings & textbooks
  • Dormitory to accommodate 72 students under construction
  • Boarding school program started for grade 8 students

  • Households have no access to clean water
  • Sorely inadequate latrines & handwashing stations
  • Communicable diseases are rampant due to contaminated drinking water & poor hygiene
  • Women & girls spend 6-8 hours a day collecting water

AFTER Sponsor A Village:
  • Clean water kiosk at the school provides water for entire community
  • 3 new hand-washing stations on school campus
  • Improved health for students & community due to clean water & health/hygiene programs
  • Significant reductions in water-borne diseases due to clean water & educational programming

  • No school lunches
  • Malnutrition from insufficient diet
  • Children don’t regularly attend school due to hunger and illness
  • Failing crops due to drought conditions and fungal disease impact food supplies and income

AFTER Sponsor A Village:
  • All students receive a daily nutritious school lunch resulting in increased health, attendance & retention rates
  • School continues to maintain 2 acre farm; kale is harvested & supports School Nutrition Program
  • Training for Environmental club to improve conservation & best agricultural practices
  • 250 seedlings planted at school organic garden
  • Community engaged in small-scale farming

  • No access to healthcare
  • Plagued by preventable diseases such as malaria & typhoid
  • Health education non-existent
  • Highest childhood mortality rate in entire region

AFTER Sponsor A Village:
  • Students & community members receive monthly access to mobile health clinics
  • All students receive regular de-worming & health screenings
  • School Health Club established
  • Health education workshops continue for all community members
  • Women now have access to Baraka Hospital for pre- and post natal care

  • Insufficient income for parents to support their families resulting in extreme poverty
  • 80% of community holds debt for food purchases, school and health-related costs
  • Many community members live on less than $2 a day

AFTER Sponsor A Village:
  • 8 community groups now formed
  • 4 women’s groups formed teaching them how to run a small business & management training
  • 2 women’s groups received agri-business & livestock development training
  • 3 women’s groups have raised enough funds to purchase sheep to support their groups’ activities & for monthly contributions
  • 5 women have already started successful businesses enabling them to keep their children in school
