19 Mar Oh what a night!
We’re still glowing from a magical evening. The Unstoppable Gala was a huge success raising a total of $920,000. The Proctor Gallagher Institute started the evening by generously pledging to double their last year’s financial support totalling $520,000 that will go towards the sustainability and expansion of the work of the Unstoppable Foundation. In addition, the attendees donated $400,000 of which 100% will go directly towards bringing an education and a future to 1,500 children in the Maasai Mara, Kenya with our implementing partner, Free the Children.
We had a sold out house with over 550 people in attendance. ABC 7 News Anchors David Ono and Ellen Leyva opened the evening as our media sponsor and Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. brought the house down when they sang the invocation, “Amazing Grace”. Honorary Co-Chairs Brandy and Malcolm-Jamal Warner did a fantastic job setting up the evening and our Host, John Schneider was not only fabulous but a little intimated by our unstoppable auctioneer, Karen Sorbo!
There were exciting performances by the Australian Tenors ARIA, and violinist Elizabeth Bacher, as well as dramatic readings by Martin Sheen, Brandy and Shiza Shahid.
Malala Yousafzai, the brave Pakistani girl who stood up to the Taliban for the right of girls to attend school, was the 2014 Unstoppable Achievement Award honoree. The award was presented to Shiza Shahid, CEO of the Malala Fund.
Words cannot express our deepest gratitude to our sponsors and to everyone who attended and contributed to this important mission. We are more determined than ever to ensure that every child receives an education and are already in action to build off the momentum that was created that evening.
We’ll be sending links to all our photos from the evening in a few days, but wanted to share this update on our exciting evening right away!
With unstoppable love and gratitude,
