08 Jul What’s a Millennium Development Goal?

The United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (UN MDGs) are eight international development goals that were officially established following the 2000 UN Summit in Dakar.  All 189 nations participating agreed to achieve these goals by the year 2015.

Each of the eight  goals has specific targets and dates for achieving these targets, and yet progress towards reaching them has been uneven, where some countries have achieved many of the goals, and others are not on track to realize any.

The eight MDGs for building a better world include:

  1. Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger,
  2. Achieving universal primary education,
  3. Promoting gender equality and empowering women,
  4. Reducing child mortality rates,
  5. Improving maternal health,
  6. Combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases,
  7. Ensuring environmental sustainability, and
  8. Developing a global partnership for development.

One of the eight MDG’s, number 2 Universal Primary Education, was also set as one of the eight anti-poverty targets to be achieved by the same date.

Data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and the Education for All (EFA) Global Monitoring Report shows there are still more than 62 million children out of school today…and although progress of providing education to the world’s poorest children since 2000 has been measurable, it’s still not enough to meet the goal of EVERY CHILD by 2015!  This is where Unstoppable Foundation comes in.  We exist to eradicate global poverty through providing the resources that will remove barriers to education for millions of children, whereby creating a more just world for everyone!

EDUCATION has been proven to yield a larger impact than ANY other form of help or aid we can give to improving health, raising income, promoting gender equality, and reducing overall poverty.

For every year a child goes to school, especially a girl, HIV Rates go down, income potential and rates of employment increases, girls get married later, early pregnancy rates decrease, and nutrition and health is elevated by the entire family.

It is both our commitment and our mission at Unstoppable to ensure that every child has access to an education; thereby building a thriving, just and sustainable world.

We won’t stop until EVERY CHILD IS EDUCATED!  We are Unstoppable!
