COMMUNITY IMPACT REPORT | LIBERIA |
WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT CENTER
The Women’s Empowerment Center was founded in 2008 by Kimmie Weeks/Youth Action International. The Center is a program designed to provide job skills training, life skills and microloans to young women from the poorest communities in Liberia.
 |
The Unstoppable Foundation funded 66 scholarships for women to receive vocational training in one of the following areas: tailoring, jewelry making, interior design, cake decorating, fabric production, and cosmetology.
The graduates of the Women’s Empowerment Centers have the skills necessary to generate an immediate income.
In addition to receiving vocational training, each young woman participates in various life skills workshops and workshops on small business enterprises.
 |
In 2009, we attended the first graduation ceremony of the Women’s Empowerment Center with President of Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, who met the 95 women graduates and congratulated them personally. Our Founder, Cynthia Kersey, facilitated an Unstoppable® Women Workshop for the graduates; a lively discussion ensued on how they would be Unstoppable® in starting successful businesses to provide for their families.
