GRANT PROVIDES SUSTAINABLE NUTRITIOUS FOOD & COMMUNITY GARDENS TO CHILDREN IN KENYA

AGOURA HILLS (January 12, 2019) – The Unstoppable Foundation is pleased to announce that the Isagenix Legacy Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to provide primary school children in the Maasai Mara region of Kenya with healthy, nutritious school lunches and to build a community garden to feed community members.

In Kenya, nearly half a million primary-aged children, as well as pregnant and lactating mothers, are currently affected by acute malnutrition. Persistent droughts lead to poor nutrition among both children and adults, threaten the livelihoods of families, and subsequently reduce school attendance. Students are often forced to drop out of school and find temporary employment to earn money to help feed their families.

To address this problem, the Unstoppable Foundation has implemented a holistic 5-Pillar solution to sustainable community development as part of their Sponsor A Village program. The model’s Food & Nutrition Pillar provides primary school students with a daily nutritious meal at school, improving both their attendance rates and ability to focus on learning. In addition, community gardens and farming projects provide a continuous source of nutritious, fresh foods while community members of all ages receive education on agricultural best practices, small-scale irrigation, crop production, drought management and nutrition.

“Nutritious school lunches, education and community gardens are a critical component to ending the cycle of hunger and malnutrition,” said Cynthia Kersey. “The Isagenix Legacy Foundation is making a sustainable impact on an entire region of the world through which they’ll leave an enduring legacy and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership.”

The Isagenix Legacy Foundation, established in 2018, fulfills the philanthropic mission of the Isagenix International organization.
